The Horizons at New Canaan Country School (NCCS) Board of Directors are a passionate group of individuals with diverse backgrounds who are committed to ensuring the long-term success of Horizons students, their families, and the organization. The organization was established in 1964 at New Canaan Country School and celebrated its sixtieth year in 2024.
The non-profit welcomed five new board members for this fiscal year. Sarah Irwin is a resident of New Canaan, with a background in marketing, advertising and education. Makena Mckain is a massage therapist in Stamford who will serve as one of the two Family Council Representatives for a two-year term. Melinda Stewart has a background in business and consulting and resides in Darien. Eve St. Surin is an alumna of the Horizons program who works in greater Fairfield County with individuals and families serving as a case manager and early childhood community advocate and is a resident of Norwalk. Jhonny Ticas, who is a real estate agent and a resident of Norwalk, is the second Family Council Representative.
Horizons Board Chair, Leigh Kennedy said: “I am thrilled to welcome these five talented individuals, each bringing unique skills and diverse perspectives, to our dedicated board.” Our commitment to our students and families is as strong as ever and I am confident that we have the best possible Board to guide the organization.” Kennedy is joined by the following officers: Susan Barr, Vice Chair; Michele Gartland, Secretary; and Mara Neafsey, Treasurer.
